Removal of teeth (extractions) is necessary because of infection, accident and to relieve crowding or impaction (blocked out teeth). Loose baby teeth can sometimes be simply removed with a topical anesthetic spray. Most other teeth need local anaesthetic (needles) and when used with conscious sedation we are able to provide a pain free pleasant experience.
If a patient comes into the office with pain and swelling, the infection must be treated first with antibiotics and pain killers. The surgery appointment is scheduled about a week later. Freezing does not work well in an infected area.
I do not extract wisdom teeth in my office and I refer my patients to an Oral Surgeon specialist.
